About CTP insurance
Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP) is an insurance that’s required in New South Wales. You’ll usually hear it referred to as your “Green Slip”. Generally, you buy it before you can register a vehicle with Service NSW. CTP insurance is there to protect and support people who are injured on the roads. Depending on how the accident happened, an injured person might be entitled to benefits to cover things like their medical expenses, treatment, and income support. Or, they might even be entitled to a lump sum. It’s also possible to make a claim if the at-fault vehicle was uninsured, unregistered, or the driver couldn’t be identified. But in these cases, strict time limits apply.
Getting legal advice early is essential if the other party was uninsured or unidentified.
Can I access compensation if the other person can’t be identified?
It's possible, but it can get tricky. It usually means starting with the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA), who then allocates your claim to a private insurer.
Getting proper legal advice can help make sure your case has the best chance possible of being approved.
