Shine contacted by Lady Cilento victims

professional negligence law | Shine Lawyers

Shine Lawyers has commenced investigations into allegations of negligence at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital which may have led to the death of at least three children.

Medical Negligence Department Manager Clare Eves says her team had been contacted by a number of concerned parents following revelations in the media yesterday.

“We’re hearing reports of failures that have led to serious injury and death,” Ms Eves said.

“While the allegations centre on paediatric and obstetric care, they also raise suspicion about the standards of care provided to patients generally and we don’t yet know how far the damage could reach,” she said.

“It’s clear that there is a need for further enquiry into procedures and standards at the hospital.”

Ms Eves said those affected could be entitled to pursue the hospital for damages should investigations show it failed its duty to patients.

“If the hospital and or its staff failed to provide patients with an acceptable standard of care, those affected could be entitled compensation for the loss they’ve suffered,” she said.

“Based on the information we’ve received and should legal action proceed, the compensation sought could be significant.”

Shine is currently representing a large number of families affected by alleged wrongdoing relating to the standard of paediatric and obstetrics care in Australian hospitals.

Families or individuals who have been affected are welcome to contact Shine Lawyer’s medical negligence team for more information.
