Peter Gibson
Head of Legal Innovation & Stakeholder Relations | President, ALA Qld
“Legal innovation goes beyond technology. It’s also about how we deliver legal services, improve access, and adapt to the changing needs of clients. "
Peter has been with Shine Lawyers for over 22 years, spending much of that time leading the firm's Queensland personal injury practice — its single biggest practice area nationally. His current role as Head of Legal Innovation & Stakeholder Relations allows him to take his hands-on experience and use it to shape the future of the legal services landscape. Peter also currently serves as President of the Australian Lawyers Alliance (Queensland) and a Legal Practitioner Director with Shine Lawyers.
There are two distinct sides to Peter's role with Shine Lawyers — the first being his contributions to how AI and technology are adapted into legal practices and services. Peter brings a distinctive perspective to this work, with his background spanning frontline legal practice, innovation, governance and stakeholder engagement. Studying law and information technology concurrently gave him an early grounding at the intersection of these disciplines — one he has continued to build on throughout his career.
The other side of Peter's role focuses on advocacy for meaningful reform. He works actively with government, regulators, industry groups and other stakeholders on law reform and policy initiatives, promoting positive change across areas including workers' compensation, CTP, public liability and abuse law.
Across both technological adaptation and advocacy, Peter is considered in his approach. AI can handle a lot of the routine, but judgment, care and human relationship remain central to legal work. His focus is on building the systems and policy settings to reflect that.
