Class Actions

Atanaan Ilango is a Special Counsel with Shine Lawyers' Class Actions team, based in Sydney. As part of the class actions team, Atanaan pursues justice for groups of everyday Australians who have suffered after being wronged by governments and large corporations.

"With class actions, you have the opportunities to secure justice for hundreds, if not thousands of people in one proceeding, something they would not have otherwise been able to pursue themselves."

Atanaan draws on over a decade of legal experience to provide his clients with the best possible outcome at the same time as bringing wrongdoers to account. His matters regularly involve litigating with some of Australia’s largest businesses, having recently worked on the class action against 7-Eleven and acting in proceedings against the big banks, State and Local governments and multinational corporations.

Atanaan is also passionate about law reform and was an integral part of Shine's submission to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources regarding the Campaign for AI Safety. Click here to find out more.

Beyond class actions, Atanaan has experience across the law, including in Property Law, Commercial Disputes and Consumer Law. He studied undergraduate degrees in law and psychology at the University of Wollongong, graduating in 2010, and was admitted as a lawyer in 2011. Atanaan went on to complete his Master of Laws at the Australian National University in 2015.
