Shine Lawyers has joined Safe Work Australia in its pledge to promote work safety this month.
From October 27 through to November 2 work safety will be under the microscope nationally. Safe Work Australia is asking people to help raise awareness of health and safety in the work place and encouraging people to speak up if they feel unsafe at work. The theme for 2013 is ‘Safety is a frame of mind. Get in the picture’ and people are being asked to think about why they want to come home from work safely.
According to a Safe Work Australia report ‘Key Work Health and Safety Statistics, Australia 2013’, the transport and storage industry has the highest rate of safety concerns, followed by the agriculture, forestry, fishing and manufacturing industry.
“Work safety is an essential part of everyday life. Most Australians spend the majority of their week at work, so employers need to ensure they are providing a risk free environment, so people can get home from work safely, “said Shine Lawyers General Manager Peter Gibson.
“Unsafe work environments have wide spread consequences, they don’t just affect the person at work, but their families and the business as well.
“It’s important that employees speak up if they believe themselves or other employees may be exposed to an unsafe work environment,” said Peter.
