Joshua is recognised at the forefront of Australian class action litigation, having recently led the Katherine and Oakey PFAS case, which reached settlement in June 2020. The successful outcome was life-changing for the more than 2000 people whose land was contaminated by toxic chemicals used at Australian defence bases.
Through a combination of legal acumen and tenacity, Josh and his team delivered a settlement of $92.5m and $34m to the Katherine and Oakey classes, respectively.
Complimenting his considerable legal talent, Josh’s humanity and care were essential to reassuring the people of Oakey and Katherine, many who were understandably scared, distressed, and uncertain as to the financial impact the contamination would have.
We are so pleased that we had the chance of working with Joshua Aylward on our case. He was genuinely interested in us and the impact that the contamination was having on our lives and our family. Josh was always honest and upfront about the risks and the issues and we always felt that we were in safe hands with Josh and the team from Shine Lawyers — Kristy and Anthony Bartlett, Lead Applicants, Katherine PFAS Class Action.
Josh brings his infectious enthusiasm across his work in the Class Actions department, serving as both a mentor and an inspiration for his team. He is a living example of our values, using his legal ability to stand up for the little guy and shine a light on the world’s injustices.
