Penny is a Solicitor with Shine Lawyers Melbourne, acting for survivors of abuse in their claims for much-needed compensation.
“The injustice and gaps in the system means there’s a desperate need for change. The more I can help people come forward and tell their story, the more society can realise how prevalent these issues are.”
Penny made the decision to work in Abuse Law out of her desire to protect vulnerable people from being abused, often in institutions that turn a blind eye. While studying law at Monash University, Penny volunteered at community legal centres and saw firsthand how gaps in the legal system caused victims to remain stuck in a negative cycle.
“I want to be part of that change that stops the cycle of abuse endured by victims, who are often young children.”
Penny completed her undergraduate studies in 2019 — she holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, as well as a Bachelor of Arts. She would go on to complete her Graduate Certificate of Legal Practice and was admitted to practice by the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Beyond her work in Abuse Law, Penny has experience in Travel Law, as well as Workers’ Compensation and Family Law. She continues to volunteer as a mentor with her local community law centre, providing free legal advice to locals and mentoring law students.
