$132.7M Multi-Site PFAS settlement approved by court

Class Actions

Seven PFAS affected communities have had a $132.7 million settlement for claims against the Commonwealth for PFAS contamination of property approved by the Federal Court.

Justice Lee said in court today that the settlement amount was fair and in the interest of group members.

Craig Allsopp, joint head of class actions who ran the claim said, "Shine's investigation into PFAS impacted communities has highlighted just how widespread and damaging this toxic substance is to properties and the environment"

From here, each property owner will receive a final individual assessment of their distribution from the settlement, and can request a review if they think that any information is incorrect. The settlement amount will not be divided equally, but will be distributed based on a range of factors including the type of property and the particular community.

"It's important to note that claims for personal injury for all PFAS affected communities can still be brought and this does not have to be the end of the battle for compensation and acknowledgment."

This is the third PFAS class-action successfully brought by Shine Lawyers.
