Jamie Shine makes the Top 20 under 40 most influential business leader list

Jamie Shine | Shine Lawyers

As the president of one of Queensland’s most powerful legal groups (Women Lawyers  Association of Queensland), Jamie Shine is set to spearhead some landmark initiatives. At the same time, she still oversees significant personal injury work in her job as a national special counsel of major claims at Shine Lawyers.

Recently she was also appointed to the board of Youngcare, a not-for-profit organisation that helps young people with high-care needs access the right housing.

Shine’s surname is no coincidence. Her uncle Kerry Shine founded Shine Lawyers long before she was born. In 2000 she joined Shine as a 17-year-old high school graduate, completing her degree via an old-fashioned articled clerkship.

Since then she has gone on to complete her masters and MBA while working at Shine Lawyers. In her position as head of major claims she deals mostly with brain injury claims, an area she’s very passionate about.

With Shine Lawyers overseeing an expansion of the WLAQ in rural and regional Queensland, Jamie Shine is eager for other female lawyers to see her role on the board of Youngcare as an opportunity that they can aim for themselves.

“The needs of women in law have changed significantly and the issues,” she told the Courier Mail’s Emmaline Stigwood. “I want to ensure women in law are supported to get opportunities into leadership positions.”
