ABC News has confirmed it obtained a secret state government report that hundreds of square kilometres of prime agricultural land in Southeast Queensland are at risk from a cocktail of toxic chemicals and explosive gases unleashed by underground coal gasification.
The study was commissioned by Queensland’s environment department and reports that an experimental plant operated by Linc Energy at Chinchilla, west of Brisbane, is to blame and has already caused “irreversible” damage to strategic cropping land.
The report obtained by the ABC was confirmed to have been disclosed to Linc Energy but not to landowners.
Shine Lawyers is investigating the potential for legal action on behalf of affected residents. Our landholder law team will examine these allegations and the potential compensation that landholders could be entitled to. This may include compensation for financial loss suffered following decreased land value and loss of healthy land for crop production.
