Throughout the trial of Cardinal George Pell and subsequent media frenzy surrounding his appeals, the issue of child sexual abuse has been thrust squarely back into the spotlight. For many survivors of childhood abuse this has been immensely challenging time. The near constant coverage of the Pell case can bring back or aggravate their trauma. The ongoing coverage may make it increasingly difficult for survivors to cope.
If you or a loved one is triggered by the media surrounding the Pell case, it is important to know that speaking to friends, family, a doctor or others who you trust and can confide in can help. To friends and family of survivors, please look out for them. Reach out if you can and you think it will help.
If you are feeling triggered, know that you are not alone.
