The Shine Lawyers Aviation Department presented an introduction to air carrier liability law to lawyers at the Australia Lawyers Alliance Queensland State Conference on 14 February 2014. The presentation was well attended and participants heard about some of the unusual risks of air travel and the peculiar mix of international and domestic law which applies to airline passenger claims.
Among the presentation material was the animation below detailing the “Miracle on the Hudson” which demonstrated how quickly a normal flight can go wrong, and the scope for saving passengers’ lives when emergencies are handled well by calm and collected pilots. The accident happened 5 years ago in New York and is still counted as one of the finest examples of airmanship in a potentially catastrophic emergency aviation situation, as it occurred in busy Manhattan airspace.
