Special Counsel – x2 Positions Queensland Wide

Considering a move to the Bar?

When you started law, you may have harboured aspirations of becoming a barrister one day. However, the leap from university to the Bar or from being a solicitor to becoming a barrister is not an easy one. A transition opportunity exists. Shine Lawyers are seeking to employ two Special Counsel to complement their existing Special Counsel Team.

The role of Shine Special Counsel is to undertake competencies equivalent to that of the external Bar and include:

· Being briefed to prepare Pleadings.
· Preparing Applications and appearing on Applications before the Courts.
· Advocacy.
· Representing clients in Statutory Settlement Conferences and Mediations.
· Providing Advice on Evidence as part of Case Planning.
· Junioring Senior Counsel trials.

The role of Special Counsel at Shine is one very similar to that of a barrister at the Bar, with the exception that you are working in-house. The role includes advocacy training, networking, stakeholder management, and national travel.

Those seeking to apply will have the following attributes:

· At least 5-7 years post admission.
· Experience in injuries based damages assessment and torts law.
· Knowledge of statutory compensation regimes and Trade Practices legislation.
· Strong communication skills.
· Confident in speaking publicly and representing clients.
· An ability to prepare meticulous pleadings that will be scrutinised by the Courts.
· An existing competency or desire to master black letter legal principles and apply them in a practical domain.
· An ability to work autonomously for the majority of the time but also as part of a team when required.
· A desire to practice and master the art of advocacy.
