5 minutes with Candice Stower
Candice Stower started with Shine in October 2010 as an Administrative Assistant. After recognising that she required a position more aligned with her law studies, she was offered a position in the Insurance and Superannuation team as a Claims Manager.
What motivated you to study law?
I think my motivation has been a desire to increase access to justice for everyday people and encourage them to use the avenues available to them when they have been wronged. I believe that Shine Lawyers offers a perfect opportunity to rectify these wrongdoings with our fee policy and the values that Shine holds.
How much longer have you left to finish your law degree?
I am studying a dual degree, Bachelor of Justice/Laws and have roughly 6-7 subjects remaining for my course which I will carry through with until mid 2012.
What do you believe is the greatest privilege in your line of work?
I honestly believe the ability to make a difference in people’s lives is the greatest reward. When people come to seek legal advice they are often doing so under pressure and anguish and need someone to hear them out. I think it is really important that every story is told and that it gets the ending it rightly deserves.
What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
Studying can be quite difficult at times when you have work and other life commitments. When I started my second year I was struggling with keeping on top of uni and working, but perseverance and patience are massive virtues when it comes to studying. When I look back now I am so proud that I overcame that year and continued through because I am so enthused for what my future legal career holds.
What do you believe gives you greatest satisfaction in your career?
I love learning new things and I look forward to acquiring many skills over the course of my career at Shine Lawyers.
